Austin Comes Up Short by a Bumper, Dalton Ends up Fourth in Bandits
Fresh off his huge win at the Speedrome in Indiana, Austin Hill returned home to the state of Georgia with great momentum. Austin’s home track of Lanier National Speedway (GA) was the backdrop to what might have been the start of the season-ending win streak. Austin got the lead early and seemed to be on his way to another victory.
“The leader slipped up and I got under him,” said Austin. “I pulled a half of a straight-away ahead of second place, I was going to win the race and then the yellow came out with two laps to go.”
Like several other Legends tracks Lanier National Speedway has the choose rule for restarts and it ended up working against Austin in the closing laps.

“Chase Elliott used the choose to restart on the outside of me,” explained Austin. “For the final two laps he ran me down on the apron every time. I was doing all I could not to wreck. Coming off the last two [turns] we banged wheels and everything and he beat me by a bumper. I wanted to win really badly, it’s been a while since we have won a race at Lanier. We have been in the top five like every week, but we still want to win again.”
Younger brother Dalton was in action in his Bandolero Bandit. Dalton finished second in his heat and looked to have a solid car for the feature.
“At the start of the race we fell back to sixth and we never really made up any ground,” said Dalton. “Something happened to the car, we are not sure what it was.”
The Hill Brothers will be racing at both the Atlanta Motor Speedway (GA) on Friday September 12th and at Lanier National Speedway (GA) on the 13th.
