Winston, Georgia, native Austin Hill has proven he’s a talented and upcoming racecar driver.  In just the past 12 months alone, he had won countless races and championships in the legends ranks.  He also is making the transition to Late Models on both asphalt and dirt, where the results keep coming.  Last week Hill wrapped up the Pro Legends Car championship at Atlanta Motor Speedway (GA).  Hill was hands down the most consistent driver in the 10-week Thursday Thunder program.  His fourth-place finish on the final night was enough to win the championship.

“It feels really good to win the championship,” said Hill.  “We finished in the top five every week and had only one bad race where we didn’t.   That’s what it takes to win a championship, get wins, finish in the top five and be consistent.”

For Hill, this Championship follows up his 2008 Semi-Pro Legends Car title at the Summer Shootout at Lowe’s Motor Speedway (NC) and his 2009 Georgia Winter Flurry Title in the Pro ranks.  Last year, Hill nearly won the Semi-Pro championship at Atlanta, only to come up a few points short at the end.

“It’s good to win in front of family and all my friends,” said Hill.   “Winning the title at the Summer Shootout last season was nice, but this is really special because Atlanta is our home track.”

At one point in the season, it looked as if the title could have been in jeopardy, as a late-race wreck nearly destroyed his primary car at Atlanta.  The team was able to fix the car and race it again at the quarter-mile the following week.

“I got clipped by another car and we ended up putting the car in the wall pretty good,” said Hill.  “We got lucky because some of the other guys we were battling in the points had trouble.  It was still a pretty bad wreck for us.  I am glad we were able to still win the championship.”

Hill’s weekend didn’t stop there, as he jumped into his Late Model three days later and led several laps at Anderson Motor Speedway (SC) with the ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour.   His race performance did not show up in the final results, as he faded to finish seventh, his third top-10 finish of the season in the series.

“It was a pretty cool feeling to be that strong,” said Hill.  “We took the lead on lap 30 and put a whole straightaway on the field.  The car got real loose and they ended up running me back down, but we led up until 20 laps to go, so it was a very good showing for us.”

Hill will return to the Late Model ranks with the ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour at Watermelon Capital Speedway (GA) on August 29th.  He will also make selected starts in his Legends Car.
