The Legends Asphalt Nationals were held this past weekend at Lanier National Speedway (GA) with over 200 competitors on location to bring winner’s trophies home, including both Austin and Dalton Hill.  While neither was able to accomplish the ultimate goal of winning, both had solid top-10 finishes in their events.

Austin Hill’s weekend started off well in his Legends Car as one of the faster Pro division drivers at the track.  However, an oil down and contact during the heat race forced him to race the B Main to get into the feature event, where he was able to drive from 22nd to 10th, despite a dirty and slick track.

“Thursday we were pretty good,” said Austin Hill.  “We had a good car all throughout practice.  We got better and better every time we went out.  Friday in qualifying, someone put oil out on the track so we couldn’t get a good lap in.  We qualified about 25th.  In the heat race, I was passing for the lead and another driver came down a little bit and didn’t give me any room.  When he did, we got together.  We had to go to the B Main and we worked our way up and finished second in that one.

“We had a good car - just everybody was bunched up and everybody was running the same times from first all the way to 25th.  We just couldn’t go anywhere.  Then when that oil was all over the track, that’s when I started making a lot of passes and everything.  The car got better and better with that oil because I could get on the apron and get under people.  I’m happy with a top 10 with the way the car was and the way our weekend was.”

In the Bandolero feature, Austin’s younger brother Dalton crossed the line third, but was awarded second after the winner of the race was disqualified for a tech infraction.

“It feels good,” said Dalton Hill.  “The #99 (Kason Plott) and I were drafting trying to catch the #24 (Woodrow Mullis), but we couldn’t catch him.  We kept trying to catch him, but we just couldn’t do it.  The #24 ended up winning but got disqualified so I came in second, so we’re happy about that.”

Next up for Hill Brothers Racing is the World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park (GA) on November 15th with Austin Hill driving in his Late Model.
